Solon's standard heat-treat recipe, which achieves the RH1065 condition while imposing an additional layer of protection from the elements, undergoes a cryogenic sub-zero transformation and aging treatment. As a result, Solon 17-7PH washers heat-treated in this condition produce enhanced characteristics:
  • Improved resistance to stress-corrosion cracking -  sub-cooling and tempering improve 17-7's stress-corrosion resistance
  • High-yield-strength - the yield strength of springs heat-treated in accordance with the Solon specification is 180 KSI
  • Exceptional ductility - additional malleability reduces the risk of corrosion-assisted failures
  • Excellent toughness - fracture toughness that's 20% greater than TH1050 and nearly 50% higher than RH950, according to the ASM Specialty Handbook: Stainless Steels
