Gaskets, packing, and seals are used between static or dynamic components or flanges to prevent process leaks, contaminants, or fugitive emissions from escaping into the environment within the flow control industry. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has determined that leaking equipment, such as valves, pumps, and connectors are the largest source of fugitive emissions for the oil and gas industry. Environmental concerns regarding leaks mean keeping a watchful eye on problematic equipment.

Elevated Temperature Flanges

Flange and/or process leaks are often due to differential thermal expansion (DTE), creep, relaxation, and high cycle where tradtional methods of bolting flanges do not overcome the effects of these variables. Typically, the problem occurs after intitial start-up, and subsequent cycling and field repairs tolerate the excessive leaking until the next maintenance schedule.  Areas subject to extreme temperatures and thermal cycling can cause stress to flange joints, causing the bolted connections to lose tension and leak. Adding advanced sealing components, such as Solon Belleville Springs & Washers to the live loading system for flange applications will maintain sufficient bolt tension resultant gasket stresses in high-temperature, high-pressure applications.
  • High temperature pipe flanges
  • Heat exchangers
  • Reactors
  • Boilers
  • Fertilizer plant

Cryogenic Flanges

Similarly, cryogenic applications, where cold temperatures and corrosion are also risk factors for DTE as the cryogenic process is introduced.
  • Low-temperature pipe flanges
  • LNG / FLNG
  • Compressors
  • Hydraulic pumps
