Senior Cost and Financial Accountant

Synopsis:

Solon Manufacturing Company has an immediate opening for a full-time, Senior Cost and Financial Accountant, at our facility in Chardon, Ohio. 

JOB PURPOSE: To supervise part-time accounts receivable/payable specialist, manage financial reporting, reconciliations, and audits, along with inventory/cost analysis and recommendations to improve cost efficiencies and profitability. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Full charge supervision of part-time accounts receivable/accounts payable specialist
    • Coach, develop and support accounting specialist
    • Monitor daily customer invoicing, payment application, A/R inbox maintenance, and vendor invoice entry and payment, through various systems and portals along with annual 1099 reporting
    • Assist in reconciliation and resolution of unmatched receivers
    • Ensure maintenance/improvement accounts receivable days outstanding
    • Ensure accurate daily bank reconciliations and updating of cash forecasting tool
  • Full charge general ledger stewardship
    • Ensure accounts receivable and payable subledger aging reports balance to the general ledger
    • Maintain and update prepaid and accrual schedules along with adjusting monthly entries as necessary
    • Prepare reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts along with adjusting entries monthly
    • Prepare and execute monthly journal entries and recurring journal entries
    • Assist with annual audit/review preparation and auditor inquiries
  • Compliance, caculation and payment to various tax authorities as required
    • Timely remit state and local income and property tax payments
    • Prepare and complete audit franchise tax report
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements
  • Cost Accounting Responsibilities 
    • Prepare and present detailed cost reports for management including KPIs and metrics focused on cost control and efficiencies to drive profitability 
    • Analyze production costs across different stages of manufacturing, comparing standard costs to actual to identify variances and potential cost-saving opportunities 
    • Track inventory levels of raw, WIP, and finished goods to ensure accurate cost accounting, and optimal levels/turns
    • Weekly review, close and costing of open completed work orders along with assuring open work orders are still in process
    • Perform and manage other duties and projects assigned by the Director of Finance
QUALIFICATIONS
Experiences, Competencies, Skills and Education
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, required
  • 5+ years management and cost account experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong team management to lead other accountant
  • Must be able to successfully prioritize and manage daily requirements concurrently with email inquiries, in-person inquiries, meetings and other requests both internal and external
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, GL reconciliation, and cash management
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
